چکیده

Abnormal orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) activity is one of the most common findings from neuroimaging studies individuals with compulsive disorders such as substance use disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The nature this abnormality complex, however, some reporting OFC to be over-active in relative controls, whereas other report it being under-active, a further set both directions within same individuals. has been implicated broad range cognitive processes decision-making goal-directed action. dysfunction could thus impair action, leading kinds cognitive/behavioral deficits observed disorders. One deficit that arise result an altered sensitivity punishment, which core characteristics displayed by across multiple types It is, therefore, aim current review assess evidence implicating adaptation punishment attempt identify critical factors determine relationship. We distill analysis guidelines for future attempting precise role punishment. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2021 APA, all rights reserved).

The Medial Orbitofrontal Cortex Regulates Sensitivity to Outcome Value.

UNLABELLED An essential component of goal-directed decision-making is the ability to maintain flexible responding based on the value of a given reward, or "reinforcer." The medial orbitofrontal cortex (mOFC), a subregion of the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, is uniquely positioned to regulate this process. We trained mice to nose poke for food reinforcers and then stimulated this region using ...

From Blame to Punishment: Disrupting Prefrontal Cortex Activity Reveals Norm Enforcement Mechanisms

The social welfare provided by cooperation depends on the enforcement of social norms. Orbitofrontal cortex lesions alter anxiety-related activity in the primate bed nucleus of stria terminalis.

In children, behavioral inhibition (BI) in response to potential threat predicts the development of anxiety and affective disorders, and primate lesion studies suggest involvement of the orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) in mediating BI. Lesion studies are essential for establishing causality in brain-behavior relationships, but should be interpreted cautiously because the impact of a discrete lesion ...
